About the Initiative
About WAHRIThe Western Australian Herbicide Resistance Initiative (WAHRI) is based in the North Wing of the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences, at the University of Western Australia (UWA). The driving force for the creation of WAHRI in 1997 was the threat to sustainable cropping systems from herbicide resistance in the major cropping weeds of Australian agriculture. GRDC and ARC employs a multi-disciplinary team to tackle a wide range of issues on herbicide resistance and its management in Australian cropping. WAHRI is committed to research, development and extension activities aimed at maximising sustainable crop production by reducing the adverse impact of herbicide resistance. WAHRI conducts basic and applied research, development and extension on many aspects of herbicide resistance and weed management. Research activities extend from understanding the biology, ecology and population dynamics of resistance-prone weed species, through to investigating the molecular mechanisms responsible for endowing herbicide resistance in these weed species.
